FLAT BEER
This one I picked up from Malaika Arora Khan. I remember in one of her interviews she mentioned that the leftover beer from her husband’s parties goes into her hair. I was a little skeptical about using it but I nevertheless gave it a try. The day I condition my hair with beer, my hair are happy, shiny and supple. Even on the days when I forget to oil my hair pre washing, I know there is something that is going to take care of my hair. icon smile 5 Awesome DIY Hair Care Tips.
How to use it?
Shampoo and rinse your hair as usual. Pour the beer in your hair in small portions and work it through. Rinse off with lukewarm water. The only tip would be to choose a beer that does not have a very strong odour.

Multaani Mitti (Fuller’s Earth/ Kaolin Clay)
This works great for people who have oily hair or scalp. Mulataani mitti has the properties of sucking off the extra oil or grease. So if you have normal or especially dry hair, just stay away from this. I use it only once or two during summer months when my scalp gets really crappy and oily. Also, it’s a pain to use it.It dries hard as a mask and then while washing, you would end up with mud every where in your bathroom. The process sucks!
How to use it?
Mix water in fuller’s earth to form it in to a thick paste. You may also replace water with rose water. Divide your hair into sections and fluff a little multani mitti powder through each section. Apply the paste quickly in your hair as the fuller’s earth tends to dry pretty quickly. Leave it for 15-20 minutes and rinse with LOTS of lukewarm water. I follow up with the oiling and shampooing my hair the next day.

EGG YOLKS
This one came from my mother-in-law. Although she is a vegetarian but when it comes to her hair, she has no issues using eggs. icon razz 5 Awesome DIY Hair Care Tips I use this as one of my pre-wash conditioner. It stinks. lol!! But it works great for hair. Apart from conditioning, it works great for people who are suffering from hair loss.
How to use it?
For long hair: 4 egg yolks; for short or medium length- 2-3 would do. I use only two. Pour the egg yolk back and forth between each half of the shell while holding your hands over the bowl. Allow the egg white to spill into the bowl, but keep as much of the egg yolk in the shell as possible. Continue this motion until the egg white has been emptied into the bowl. Dump the egg yolks in a separate bowl and whisk the yolks with a fork. Part you hair in sections and cover every strand of your hair with the whisked eggs either with a pastry brush or a your fingers. Cover you hair with a dry towel and wait for 8-10 minutes. Follow up with a strongly scented shampoo to get rid of the odour. icon razz 5 Awesome DIY Hair Care Tips Your hair would be shiny, and bouncy after that.
HEENA
The credit for this product goes to mom. Simply not recommended for dry hair. Apply on dry hair and you would end up with lifeless-brittle hair. For some reason my every hair dresser has suggested me against applying heena so I don’t use it. But since it’s a natural dyes it works great to colour any greys, keeps your oily scalp in place and conditions your hair. The best way to find out whether heena suits your hair or not is to do a strand test and you would know how your hair behaves to it.
How to use it?
Pour 2-3 tablespoon of heena in a bowl. Slowly add water and keep mixing it until it forms a creamy yogurt kind of a thickness paste. Add half lemon and 6-7 drops of essential oil. Part you hair in sections and cover every strand of your hair starting from bottom working your way till up and keep rolling your hair in small bums. You may also use hair clips if your hair are short. Cover your head with a shower cap and wash off after and hour or two ( keep heena longer if you want more colour in your hair)with LOADS of water. Your hair might feel itchy after drying because of dry henna specks left in your hair. So oil your hair overnight and wash the next day. Don’t forget to keep an old towel on your pillow when you sleep. After washing, you hair would have this beautiful reddish colour, no dandruff, and lots of shine to them. You may apply henna at 1 1/2 to 2 months duration period.
MAYONNAISE
When my hair dresser recommended me to apply mayo in may hair, I was like…ummm…uhhh? icon razz 5 Awesome DIY Hair Care Tips His only explanation that convinced me was that I would be giving my hair the best of both worlds-eggs and oils. I was a little skeptical about applying the regular mayo so I made it at home only. But I also found out an unsalted mayonnaise at stores so I use that most of the time.
